Catherine and Chris headed West
I woke up this morning in the great Canadian mid-west, moving slowly towards my ancestral homeland of Winnipeg. There I'll be playing a show at the West End Cultural Centre on Oct 18 with Matt Epp as he releases his new record.I'm so excited to be back out on the road with Chris. We've been working hard for the last 2 years on making magic as a duo and all that work feels like it's paying off. Every time we get on stage I feel a surge of excitement that, if left uncontrolled, turns into the giggles. Ha, working should always be this fun. It just feels so great what we can make happen with only two people on stage. Chris' guitar playing is at an ever rising high, and more close harmonies happening all the time. We've also got a ton of new songs that we are working on, hopefully to put them on the next record. Here's a link to one of them, performed live during our last trip to Holland: http://www.youtube.com/embed/nQLJSPBmR8A?rel=0 (A bit of a rough start, haha, but 'tis the joy of new songs!)I'll be happy to meet up with my good friend Del Barber, Winnipeg's rising star, who will just be arriving back in Winnipeg after a trip east. Last time we had a chance to hang out for any length of time, we co-wrote the first track on his new record, Headwaters. It's a beautiful collection of songs and has garnered him a nod for Solo Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Awards.I've also been fortunate enough to be nominated at this year's CFMAs, for English Songwriter of the Year and Contemporary Singer of the Year. This is one awards show that is mostly populated by my friends and music family. Old Man Luedecke, Rose Cousins, Deep Dark Woods, Del Barber, Matt Anderson, Gypsophilia, and on and on. The folk world is a very nice community to be a part of. I wish I could be at the awards show, as it will be held this year in Saint John, NB. Alas, I'll be across the pond in the UK in November. Wishing everyone the best of luck. (I've got one in my pocket already from 2010, so the pressure is off!)Anyway, if you happen to be in Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Alberta over the next two weeks, keep an eye out for us. Here's a list of our dates:
