Summer plans

First off, I want to say thank you for all your support on social media following the tough decision to cancel/postpone the Montreal and Ontario dates in May.
I didn't give a full explanation online - but I've been struggling with depression and burnout lately. I feel more able to tell you here that it's been a difficult few years becoming the primary caretaker for my mom. She's been declining in mobility and heading down the path towards dementia. Lately she's had a few falls and incidents that landed her in the hospital and that is currently where she is now.
I'm so grateful that I didn't go on that short tour because, as it turned out,  I would have been away when she needed me most.
I'm sure there are a lot of you out there who can relate the the challenges of caring for an aging parent - it is a normal part of life if we're lucky. My mother was always there for me with a kind and open heart. And there is no way I could have had a career in music as a single mom without my mother helping out with my daughter when I was on tour. It seems now is the time for me to return the favour of care, and I'm grateful to have the flexibility in my job do it.
We're hoping that she can head back to the community care home that she had just moved into. She was really enjoying it there, and I was enjoying having a team of people looking out for her. It would take a lot of pressure off me personally - and allow me to get back to work.

A snapshot from my last outing with mom at the wonderful Island Stone Pub in Kensington, PEI. We had a fun time sharing a mother's day lunch.
